About Us

　　Beijing Glass Research Institute (BGRI) was set up in 1960. It is a key institute for R&D of inorganic non-metal materials, especially optical material, in China.

In 2000, BGRI changed its management system, and became a high-tech enterprise. Now it has a staff of more than 200, of which near half the number are engineers and technicians in various fields. It established successively one R&D Center and five companies for the research, development, production, and marketing of variety of optical materials and devices. In addition, an affiliated plant is set up for production of various temperature measuring elements and temperature controlling devices, stained glass, and decoration glasses.
The subdivisions for scientific research, development and manufacturing of products in BGRI now are as follows:

Besides the above subdivisions, there are also 4 high-tech laboratories and pilot centers established by Beijing municipal government in the institute, i.e. "Beijing Optical Fiber Research Laboratory", "Beijing Inorganic Crystal Materials Laboratory", "Beijing Optical crystal and Coating Materials Pilot Center", and "Beijing Optical Fiber Product Pilot Center".

With the development of more than 40 years, 5 product series have been formed in the institute， and they are optical fibers and their devices for communication, special optical fibers, optical and scintillation crystals, optical thin films and coating materials, optical and special glasses. Those products are selling well in China, and some of them, such as optical crystals, scintillation crystals, optical coating materials have entered the international market, for example Britain, USA, Germany, Holland, Australia, India and Japan.
